Despite my general dislike of the Gregorian calendar, it’s hard not to notice a definite energetic shift as we go from September to October, possibly more than any other two months besides its New Year. Perhaps it was ingrained into our minds in grade school. The days grow shorter, the shadows grow longer. The Chaos Serpent gains a bit more of an upper hand against Ra. But it never wins, thanks to our Lord and Savior Sutekh.
One holiday I wanted to draw your attention to falls on October 18th. The Feast of the Children of the Storm, dedicated to Sutekh. This is out of the Cairo calendar used by Luigi Tripani in his book. Tantalizing as its name sounds, there’s no other information on this holiday in the book besides the name, and that Seth was associated with it. Wouldn’t it be so cool if Set followers all called themselves Children of the Storm? His historic followers get called the Confederates of Set, which does sound cool but has too many negative connotations in the USA. What do you think, my fellow Setians? Late in the month we get a series of holidays centered around the reconciliation between Set and Horus. This was when they were going to divide Egypt evenly, with Set getting Upper Egypt and Horus getting Lower Egypt. Too bad this deal wasn’t good enough for a certain sister, who wouldn’t be happy until Set was wiped out of existence, seemingly, and just had to continue to traumatize her son into making him fight his uncle. Yes, I may have a few biases. But it really should have ended there, with Egypt split evenly.
It’s also Spooky Season! I was Wiccan for a time, and I loved to celebrate Samhain. I’ve taken it with me into my Armeno-Kemetic pagan path. I do have some Gaelic ancestry too after all, even if I find it a little less interesting than my Armenian side, so it’s not really cultural appropriation. I still honor all my akhu. Today I dedicate Halloween/Samhain to Anubis and Medjed the Smiter. Don’t forget to leave a bowl of Halloween candy out for Medjed on Halloween night.
